![]() If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me or take a look at my feedback. This is an old watch and although working since putting in a new battery, it has not had a recent service and will need a full service to ensure reliability and is why I have put a low start price. IMPORTANT - This watch is a vintage watch and sold 'As Is' and is sold with no guaranty. They pre-dated quartz technology and although don't keep as good time as a modern quartz watch they still keep time better than most mechanical watches. They were only produced in the 60's and 70's and were expensive to buy. Tuning fork by John Walker stamped with note (E) and frequency in hertz (659) A tuning fork is an acoustic resonator in the form of a two-pronged fork with the prongs formed from a U-shaped bar of elastic metal (usually steel). These watches are a real technical marvel. The Accutron consist of a single transistor electronic oscillator circuit, Figure 2. But it does require plucking the tuning fork to get it started, and it still pegs the ammeter. My understanding is the 219 uses most of the same bits from the 218, with the obvious omission of one coil. Attached to the tuning fork is a small finger with a microscopic jewel that pushes a wheel with around. It is the frequency of the tuning fork that ensures the accuracy of the watch. This Tuning Fork watch has a fine serviceable movement. Please take a close look at the photographs as they form part of the description. The movement makes a great talking point for those interested in watches. 224, used in the slim full-production Accuquartz, was closely related to the contemporary Accutron Cal. The exhibition back allows you to safely see the Accutron 218 movement that is usually hidden away from site and can be seen in the pictures. The crystal is in good condition and the watch also has an acrylic exhibition case back. It has a nice dial with a cushion case that feels good on the wrist. The Spanish day and quick set date seem to be working but have not been completely tested. It appears to be holding time to within a minute or so over the past few days. I just put a new battery in as it was flat and it seems to be running now.
