But since they already made it work on PS4, which is as close to a PC as a console can get, the total rewrite of the engine wouldn't be necessary And it would be a rewrite of the entire engine if they had to deal with original PS3 code, because not only it's an alien CPU architecture, but also some graphics work were done on that chip's SPEs, which would made a transition to a classic PC architecture a major pain in the ass. Also, it may come as a surprise, but DirectX is not the only API available to developers of PC games.
